Our organic basil essential oil is a top note steam distilled from Ocimum basilicum. This basil oil is the estragole chemotype, formerly known as methyl chavicol, and is sometimes referred to as tropical basil.

Aroma:
This top note oil has an earthy, herbaceous, and spicy aroma with prominent notes of licorice. Often, basil essential oil does not reflect the familiar aroma of whole fresh basil leaves due to the concentrated nature of certain constituents.

Constituents:
Our basil essential oil primarily consists of estragole, up to 85%. It also may contain up to 8% linalool and 6% 1,8-cineole. Estragole is also known as methyl chavicol and is found in tarragon, anise seed, and fennel essential oils. Linalool appears in a wide variety of oils, including ho wood, lavender tea tree, lavender, clary sage, and neroli.

Blending and Uses:
Basil oil offers endless applications. Its pungent, warm, herbal aroma works well in diffuser blends to clear the air, making spaces feel fresh, clean, and revitalized. Combine it with lemon, bergamot, or lavender for uplifting house aromas. Blend with peppermint to enhance focus and energy while studying or reading.

Basil oil is a popular choice for facial steams or to support healthy breathing with oils such as thyme, rosemary, or tea tree. It can be added to facial washes or serums for occasional blemishes or irritations. For muscle soreness relief, blend basil with vetiver or eucalyptus in massage mixes.

For skincare, lotions, creams, or perfumes can all benefit from the robust aroma of basil. For body care, blend it with nutmeg, black pepper, orange, or neroli. Incorporate basil into deodorant recipes with sage, cedarwood, ginger, or grapefruit for freshness. This oil also enhances baths when mixed with lemongrass, rosemary, or fennel.

Safety:
This oil may cause skin sensitization. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes, or on mucous membranes. Do not ingest unless advised by a qualified healthcare practitioner. Keep away from children and pets.

Before use, perform a patch test on your inner forearm or back, applying a small amount of diluted essential oil and covering with a bandage. If irritation occurs, dilute the essential oil further with a carrier oil or cream, then wash with soap and water. If no irritation occurs after 48 hours, it is safe for skin use.
